SmackTalk is a Design Strategy exercise in creating a start-up from the beginning phases of idea making to designing the user experience. We were assigned a demographic (sports fans) and were asked to identify a need within our user group. After researching the market, we found that there is a growing trend towards online gambling and the use of mobile devices to track sports statistics. In response, we developed SmackTalk, a peer-to-peer mobile gambling application that facilitates small wagers between friends. We wanted to take the awkwardness of money exchange out of the picture and foster fun, friendly, competition. We want our user interface to transcend the traditional gambling experience and focus on team loyalty, and having light-hearted fun with your friends.
At the end of the school year, we were invited by Mix and Stir Start-up studio to continue our work to develop our business over the summer. During that time, we had the opportunity to collaborate with other start-ups while working in a studio together. We participated in weekly pitch nights to give and receive feedback on our ideas, and received mentorship from an impressive group of professionals around the bay area from angel investors to engineers.
