For this assignment we were asked to create a type specimen that included a full letter set, all weights of the typeface, a piece of our own writing about the typeface, and an excerpt from a piece of writing from the same era that has nothing to do with typography.

I chose Futura out of love for Wes Anderson movies, and found an article on Experimental Furniture Design in the 1920s to be particularly pertinent. The article was about the development of module and collapsible furniture, and the excerpt I pulled was an El Lissitzky quote saying “The contemporary apartment must be put together like the most up-to date suitcase…, we must take into consideration every necessity to be packed in and utilize every cubic centimeter.”

I wanted to build a conceptual framework around that quote. I created a type specimen that referenced a piece of furniture, that could be collapsable and have a lot of moving parts, like a modern 1920’s apartment.
